Australia is one of the world’s most diverse destinations — a continent-sized country containing the world’s largest reef system, a red desert heart, a world-class cosmopolitan city, ancient rainforests and 25,000 kilometres of coastline. This ten-day tour connects the three experiences that best define the country for first-time visitors.
Days One, Two & Three: Sydney
Arrival at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport and transfer to a harbour-view hotel. The Opera House, Circular Quay and the Harbour Bridge define the waterfront. A BridgeClimb to the apex of the Harbour Bridge at dawn — 134 metres above the water — with the Opera House below and the city waking up around you is one of the great urban experiences. The Bondi to Coogee coastal walk, the historic Rocks district and a Blue Mountains day trip fill the remaining Sydney days.
Days Four & Five: Uluru and the Red Centre
Flight to Ayers Rock Airport in the heart of the Northern Territory. Uluru — the massive sandstone monolith sacred to the Anangu Aboriginal people — is 348 metres high and 9.4 kilometres around its base. A circumnavigation walk with an Aboriginal ranger guide explains the Tjukurpa creation stories connected to specific rock formations. Sunset and sunrise at Uluru, when the rock shifts through orange, red and purple, are included. The Kata Tjuta domes are visited on the second day.
Days Six, Seven & Eight: Great Barrier Reef, Cairns
Flight to Cairns in Far North Queensland — the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the world. A full-day reef boat carries you to the outer reef where snorkelling and introductory scuba diving allow close encounters with coral gardens, sea turtles, reef sharks and the staggering diversity of tropical fish. Day eight offers a half-day in the Daintree Rainforest, the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, with a guided walk through the jungle to a swimming hole.
Days Nine & Ten: Cairns Free Time and Departure
An unscheduled day in Cairns with optional white-water rafting on the Tully River or a visit to the Atherton Tablelands and its volcanic crater lakes. Return flight to Dubai via Sydney or Singapore.
