Costa Rica

Costa Rica Rainforest & Wildlife Adventure

◷ 6 days / 5 nights ⌖ Costa Rica ★★★★★ Highly rated

Costa Rica contains five percent of the world’s biodiversity in a country the size of West Virginia. Forests cover more than half the land, volcanoes mark the spine of the country, and two coastlines — Pacific and Caribbean — offer dramatically different landscapes. This six-day tour moves through the country’s greatest natural assets at an unhurried pace.

Days One & Two: Arenal Volcano

Arrival in San José and transfer to La Fortuna, the town at the base of Arenal Volcano. The volcano last erupted actively in 2010 and its perfectly symmetrical cone dominates the skyline. The second day includes a hanging bridges walk through primary rainforest, a guided night walk spotting tree frogs and night herons, and an evening soak in the natural hot springs fed by volcanic geothermal energy.

Days Three & Four: Monteverde Cloud Forest

The drive to Monteverde crosses the continental divide. The cloud forest reserve is a different ecosystem entirely — perpetually mist-wrapped, home to resplendent quetzals and over four hundred bird species. A zip-line canopy tour covers twelve platforms through the treetops, and a guided walk through the Children’s Eternal Rainforest is scheduled for the following morning.

Days Five & Six: Pacific Coast

Transfer to Manuel Antonio National Park on the Pacific coast. Monkeys, coatis and sloths share the beach with visitors. A guided park walk on day five is followed by a free beach afternoon. Day six includes an optional sea kayaking or snorkelling excursion before the return flight from San José.
