Bali Temples, Rice Terraces & Beaches

◷ 7 days / 6 nights ⌖ Bali, Indonesia ★★★★★ Highly rated

Bali is a Hindu island in an overwhelmingly Muslim archipelago, and that cultural distinctiveness runs through everything — the architecture, the daily flower offerings left at every doorstep, the traditional dance performances, the festivals that seem to occur on a near-daily basis. This seven-day tour moves through the island’s varied landscapes.

Days One & Two: Ubud

Transfer from Ngurah Rai Airport to Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali set in the central highlands. The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, Tegallalang rice terraces, the Tirta Empul water temple and the Goa Gajah elephant cave occupy the first two days. An evening Kecak fire dance performance at Uluwatu Temple — built on a clifftop above the Indian Ocean — closes day two.

Days Three & Four: North Bali and the Volcanoes

Mount Batur, an active volcano at 1,717 metres, can be climbed before dawn for sunrise views over the crater lake and across to Mount Agung, Bali’s highest peak. The north coast offers a very different Bali — the Hindu temples of Pura Luhur Batukau are surrounded by untouched jungle, and Bali’s only botanical garden is nearby.

Days Five, Six & Seven: South Bali

Seminyak and Canggu on the west coast are the centre of Bali’s beach and café culture. Surf lessons are available on day five. The Tanah Lot sea temple, set on a rock stack offshore, and the Uluwatu clifftop temple complete the temple circuit before a final beach day and sunset dinner at a clifftop restaurant in Jimbaran.
