Greece concentrates an extraordinary range of experiences into a relatively small area. Ancient history, island architecture, Aegean sailing, Mediterranean food and warm-water beaches are all within reach of each other. This tour links the Acropolis to the caldera cliffs of Santorini and the windmills of Mykonos.
Days One & Two: Athens
Arrival in Athens and an afternoon walk through the Plaka neighbourhood at the base of the Acropolis. Day two begins with a reserved-time visit to the Acropolis and the Parthenon with a licensed archaeologist guide who brings the fifth-century BCE building programme to life. The Acropolis Museum directly below the hill houses the original carved friezes.
Days Three & Four: Santorini
A one-hour flight from Athens deposits you on the rim of one of the world’s largest active volcanic calderas. The villages of Oia and Fira cling to the clifftop 300 metres above the dark water below. A private sunset sailing cruise around the caldera with a stop at the volcanic hot springs is the standout experience of this leg of the journey.
Days Five & Six: Mykonos
A short ferry crosses from Santorini to Mykonos. The island’s Cycladic architecture — brilliant white cubes against deep-blue sea — is the most replicated aesthetic in Greek tourism. The windmills of Chora, the fishing port of Little Venice and the nearby Delos island sanctuary (a UNESCO site) fill the remaining two days.
Day Seven: Return to Athens and Departure
